APPROACH

TREATMENT APPROACH

Through my experience, I have come to learn that clients are the experts of their own lives. While they may need extra support from time to time, they know their life story best because they are the ones who have lived it. But sometimes it feels too frightening and painful to remember, which is why I strive to provide my clients with a safe place to bring every piece of themselves. A place free of judgment and filled with compassion and understanding. A place to learn and unlearn. A place to sit and be present, to think and feel what is needed. A place to be seen and a place to heal.

At Under the Oak Psychotherapy, you can expect a client centered-collaborative approach to treatment, rooted firmly in evidence based therapeutic modalities.

“A place to learn and unlearn. A place to sit and be present, to think and feel what is needed. A place to be seen and a place to heal. ”

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive and evidence-based therapy that is based on the idea that people can learn to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors by developing skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

DBT is a highly effective therapy for individuals struggling with a range of mental health concerns, particularly those who have difficulty managing their emotions and engaging in healthy behaviors.

THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between a person's thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. The goal of CBT is to help individuals identify and challenge negative or distorted thoughts and beliefs that may be contributing to their distress or difficulties, and to develop more effective ways of thinking and behaving.

CBT is a highly effective therapy for individuals struggling with a range of mental health concerns. It is typically provided by trained mental health professionals in a structured and supportive environment. The skills learned in CBT can be applied to various areas of life, helping individuals to manage their emotions, behaviors, and relationships more effectively.

Family Systems Therapy

Family systems therapy is an approach to therapy that focuses on the dynamics and interactions within a family system. It views problems and issues within a family as a result of the larger family system, rather than as individual problems.

Family systems therapy can be helpful for a wide range of family-related issues, such as communication problems, conflict, parenting issues, divorce, and substance abuse. The goal of this approach is to improve communication, increase understanding, and promote positive change within the family system. This may involve working with the entire family, as well as individual family members, to address the underlying issues that contribute to the presenting problem.

Trauma Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed therapy is an approach to therapy that recognizes the impact of trauma on an individual's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It seeks to create a safe and supportive environment that empowers clients to address the effects of trauma and move towards healing.

Trauma-informed therapy can be helpful for individuals who have experienced various types of trauma, including physical or sexual abuse, neglect, violence, natural disasters, or other traumatic events. The goal of this approach is to create a safe and supportive environment that helps individuals rebuild their sense of safety, trust, and empowerment, and work towards healing and recovery.
